I am starting a journal where I document my OS journey.
Last year, in 2009, I forced my dad to get me a laptop. Everyone else back then was obsessed with camera phones or those big phones with video players. That was considered the rad thing to have. But I didn't care about a phone. I wanted a laptop.
I started calling sales teams directly. Dell had this build to order thing running in India. I dialed their sales number, spoke to a sales lady, and picked a Dell Inspiron 15R (N5010).
And I was a college kid back then. I didn't really need a laptop. None of my classmates had one, even though they were all much richer and came from solid middle class families. I wasn't buying it because I was smart or wanted something useful. No, not at all. I almost never used it for anything that people consider a good use. All we did was watch a lot of movies, songs, and porn. In 2009 and 2010, in the room where I stayed, my laptop was basically the movie watching station for everyone. Later on, more people got laptops in college, but in my room it was all movie watching.

And those fuckers broke it too. They dropped it and the body broke, but thankfully it kept working.
I paid almost 34k I think. Had to go to a bank with cash and deposit in the account number they gave and all that. I'm putting the quote snippets here for y'all.

Anyway, I didn't pay for MS Windows license. I didn't negotiate with the sales lady well. Maybe she would have given a discount. But me with mental problems, speaking to a person and asking for discount? Hell no. I mean, I would ask these days, but back then, I would die before that.
Actually they did give me a DOS CD for the OS. I did install it, but what will I do with it?
I even stupidly paid an extra 500+ for the Lotus Pink LCD Back Cover.
If I go back, I wouldn't have done that. But here it is, a cracked Lotus Pink Inspiron running FreeDOS in my college room.
